The Portland class was a class of British 4th rate ships, armed with 50 cannons and with a designed crew of 350 men. They were armed with 22 24–Pounder guns in the lower deck, 22 12–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 4 6–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck, and 2 6–Pounder guns in the forecastle.

HMS Leopard saw service during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and was active in Europe, East Indies and Egypt. In 1807, a group of British sailors – some of American birth – deserted and joined the crew of USS Chesapeake. Captain Humphreys, commanding Leopard, requested permission to search for the deserters. Chesapeake’s captain refused, and Leopard opened fire, capturing the American ship. Humphreys took back four deserters and hanged the British–born ones. This incident was one of several episodes that increased the tension between the British Empire and the United States, finally exploding in the War of 1812.

The Bucentaure class ships of the line were a class of twenty–one 80–gun third rates, designed for French Navy by Jacques–Noël Sané. These powerful ships had a designed crew of around 500, and they were armed with 30 36–Pounder guns in the lowerdeck, 32 24–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 18 12–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck.

The Tonnant class was a group of eight 80-gun third rates, designed for French Navy by Jacques–Noël Sané. These powerful ships of the line had a designed crew of around 780, and they were armed with 30 32–Pounder guns in the lowerdeck, 30 24–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 18 24–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck, 2 12–Pounder guns in the forecastle.

The Tonnant class ship HMS Malta previously served with the French Navy as the “Guillaume Tell”, until she was captured in the Mediterranean Sea by the British Navy during the blockade of Malta. As Guillaume Tell, she took part in the Battle of the Nile, becoming one of only two French ships to escape the destruction of the fleet, and took refuge at Malta, where was captured. After her capture, she sailed in the British Navy for 40 years, with missions in the Channel, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The Amazon Class frigates of 1773 were fifth-rate, 32-guns British ships with a main battery of 12-pounder guns, plus 18-pound carronades and 6-pounder guns in the quarterdeck and in the forecastle. The designed crew was of 220. It comprised 18 ships; the Amazon, Ambuscade and Thetis were launched in 1773; the second batch - Cleopatra, Amphion, Orpheus, Juno, Success, Iphigenia, Andromache, Syren, Iris, Greyhound, Meleager, Castor, Solebay, Terpsichore and Blonde - were launched in 1779 to 1787.

HMS Orpheus was a 32–gun fifth rate frigate of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1780, and served for more than a quarter of a century, participating in numerous actions, mostly in the East Indies against French and Dutch ships, and later in the North Sea and Jamaica. She was wrecked in 1807 sailing toward Port Royal. This ship pack can also be used to represent the British Amazon frigate “HMS Amphion 1780”.

The Intrepid–class ships were designed for the Royal Navy by Sir John Williams. These ships were armed with 26 24–Pounder guns in the gundeck, 26 18–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 10 4–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck, and 2 9–Pounder guns in the forecastle.

HMS Polyphemus was laid down at Sheerness in 1782 and commissioned in 1799 under the command of Captain G. Lumsdaine. She sailed in the North Sea Fleet on the Baltic Sea until 1802. In 1805, Capt. Robert Redmill commanded her in the Battle of Trafalgar, where she engaged the French ships Neptune and Achille and captured the Spanish ship Argonauta. She was later in service along the French coast and in the Americas.

HMS Queen Charlotte, a 1st rate of 100 guns, was in service barely a decade before perishing in an accident off Livorno. Before her destruction, however, she saw service as the flagship of Admiral Earl Howe at the Glorious First of June (1794), the first fleet engagement of the French Revolutionary War. The Queen Charlotte broke through the French line astern of the 120-gun Le Montagne, and subsequently engaged, dismasted and finally secured the surrender of the 80-gun French ship of the line Le Juste. HMS Royal George served as the flagship at the Battle of Groix and wore the flag of Admiral Alexander Hood at the Glorious First of June. In 1807 she served as the flagship of Admiral Sir John Duckworth during the Alexandria expedition of 1807. HMS Royal Sovereign was a 1st rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, the lead ship of the class with the same name; it was the largest warship in the world at the time of her construction. The ship gained a magnificent record of service, notably at the Glorious First of June and at Trafalgar, where she led the Lee column and fired the first British broadsides of the day, simultaneously raking the 112-gun Spanish Santa Ana to port and 74-gun French Le Fougueux to starboard, breaking through the line of Allied vessels. This ship pack can also be used to represent the British first rate ship-of-the-line “HMS Britannia 1762”.

The Swan class was a class of 14-gun ship-sloops (even if in fact they mounted, after 1779, 16 guns). The class was designed for the Royal Navy by the Surveyor of the Navy, John Williams. Twenty-three more were ordered between 1773 and 1779; they represented the 'standard' ship-sloop design of the British Navy during the American Revolutionary War, during which eleven of them were lost. Surviving vessels went on to serve during the French Revolutionary War and Napoleonic War.

HMS Swan was the lead ship in the Swan class of ship-sloops. She was launched on 21 November 1767. HMS Swan served during the American Revolutionary War, but in 1779 she was converted to an 8-gun fire ship and renamed “Explosion”. In 1783, she was reconverted to sloop, and later sailed to the East Indies, Jamaica and the North Sea, where it captured two privateers. She was laid up at Portsmouth in 1801 and sold for disposal in 1814. This ship pack can also be used to represent the British ship-sloop “HMS Fairy 1778”.

The Hébé class was a class of six 40-gun frigates of the French Navy, designed in 1781 by Jacques-Noël Sané. Captured by the British Navy on 4 September 1782, the ship became the model for the British “Leda class” frigates. These ships were armed with 26 long 18-pounder guns (later increased to 28), 12 long 8-pounder guns and 4 36-pounder obusiers, and had a designated crew of 300.

HMS Sybille was originally the 38-gun frigate “Sybille” of the French Navy, launched in 1791 in Toulon. She was captured by the 50-guns HMS Romney in 1794, and commissioned into service in the Royal Navy, where it served until 1833. HMS Sybille participated in several notable ship actions, capturing two French frigates and several privateers and brigs; and she participated in the Battle of Copenhagen, where it bombarded the city. After the Napoleonic Wars, on anti-slavery duties off West Africa from 1827 to 1830, Sybille captured numerous slavers and freed some 3,500 slaves. This ship pack can also be used to represent the British frigate “HMS Amelia 1796”.

HMS Victory is a three-decks, 104-gun ship of the line, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is most famous as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. She was also Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824 she served as a harbor ship. In 1922 she was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, and preserved as a museum ship. She is the world's oldest naval ship still in commission.

The Mahonesa class was a class of Spanish 5th–rate frigates, armed with 34 cannons and part of the “Armada Real”. Often considered the best frigates in the Spanish Navy, they had a designed crew of around 280, and were armed with 26 12–Pounder guns in the lower deck and 8 6–Pounder guns in the upperdeck.

The Santa Monica – aka Mahonesa – was the first of a series of 6 frigates of 34 guns, built in the Minorcan port of Mahón, and had as her first service the transport of troops of Mallorca. This ship performed various services along the Mediterranean sea, and took part to French Revolutionary Wars until she was captured by the HMS Terpsichore on October 13, 1796 on the Cape of Gata, after a fight of three hours with 21 dead crewmen.

Along with the 74-gun of the Téméraire type and the 80-gun of the Tonnant type, the Océan 120-gun type was to become one of the three French standard types of battleships during the war period 1793 to 1815. These were the most powerful ships of the Napoleonic Wars, and a total of ten served during that time.

The Montagne, originally called “Océan”, was a French 118-gun first-rate three-decker ship of the line, the lead ship of her class. After several name changes, she became “Montagne” in October 1793. As Montagne, the ship was the flagship of Rear-Admiral Villaret-Joyeuse in the famous battle known as the “Glorious First of June”, where she was badly damaged by the HMS Royal Sovereign. In 1795 she was renamed “Océan” again. She served in the French Navy until 1855. This ship pack can also be used to represent the French ship-of-the-line “Commerce de Marseille 1788”.

Flagship of the rear-admiral Martin during the Battle of Genoa in 1795, she is mostly famous for its role as flagship of the French squadron during the Invasion of Egypt. During the Battle of the Nile, on August, 1st 1798 – the celebrated victory that made Lord Nelson a hero – the Orient came under fire from five enemy ships; the ammunition storage caught fire and the ship detonated. Her spectacular destruction that day is commemorated by paintings and poems. This ship pack can also be used to represent the French ship-of-the-line “Austerlitz 1808”.

Petit Annibal was originally a British ship, the HMS Hannibal, built by Adams of Bucklers Hard and launched on 26 December 1779. She was subsequently captured by the French ship Héros off the coast of Sumatra, in 1782. She was called Petit Annibal to distinguish her from the eponymous 74–gun Annibal, which was in the same fleet. Admiral Bailli de Suffren took her into his fleet, and she saw service in his five battles against British Admiral Sir Edward Hughes in 1782 and 1783. She was decommissioned in 1787 and used as a hulk from 1792.

The “Meregildos” were Spanish 1st-rate ships of the line, armed with 112 cannons and with a designed crew of about 1100. They were armed with 30 36–Pounder guns in the lower deck, 32 24–Pounder guns in the middle deck, 32 12–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, and 18 8–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck and the forecastle.

The Príncipe de Asturias was another of the Spanish three–deck 112–gun ship of the line, based on the Santa Ana design by Romero Landa. She fought with a British squadron on 14 February 1797 in the Battle of Cape St Vincent, with 10 killed and 19 wounded. At Trafalgar, the ship suffered 50 killed and 110 wounded. After the battle, she had to be towed by the French frigate Thémis and undergo major repairs in Cadiz. She returned to fight in the Peninsular War, capturing many French ships. She crossed the Atlantic to Havana with Santa Ana to avoid capture by the French. In 1814 she struck a rock and was scrapped three years later.

The Artesien class included five French 3rd rate ships of the line, built at Brest to a design of Joseph-Louis Ollivier. They were armed with 64 cannons and had a designed crew of 570-580 men. They were armed with 26 24–Pounder guns in the lower deck, 28 12–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, and 10 6–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck and the forecastle.

Protee was built in 1772 and designated as flagship of a convoy directed to India, departing with other ships as escort, transporting troops and ammunition. On 23 February, off Spain, the convoy met Rodney's fleet; Duchilleau, commander in charge, tried to lure the British by continuing on the same bearing, while the convoy escaped, escorted by the other ships. The British fleet chased and captured Protee.

This ship pack can also be used to represent the French Artesien Class ship-of-the-line “Eveille 1772.”

The “Meregildos” were Spanish 1st-rate ships of the line, armed with 112 cannons and with a designed crew of about 1100. They were armed with 30 36–Pounder guns in the lower deck, 32 24–Pounder guns in the middle deck, 32 12–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, and 18 8–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck and the forecastle.

Real Carlos was a 112–gun three–decker ship of the line, built following plans by Romero Landa for Santa Ana. She served in the Spanish Navy during the French Revolutionary Wars, but was destroyed during the Second Battle of Algeciras, with the loss of many of its crew. After participating in the capture of San Pietro Island for Spain and Sant'Antioco for France, in July 1801, she was in Algericas battling against the British fleet. The HMS Superb, cutting through the rearguard, maneuvered between Real Carlos and San Hermenegildo. When the Spanish ships opened fire, they struck each other and then collided, with fire spreading out of control. Both exploded and more than 1700 men were killed in the blast.

The Nepomuceno Class of the Spanish Navy included ships of the line with 74 cannons and a designed crew of about 530. They were armed with 28 24–Pounder guns in the lower deck, 30 18–Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 8 12–Pounder guns in the quarterdeck, and 8 8–Pounder guns in the forecastle.

The San Agustín was a 74–gun ship of the line built at the royal shipyard in Guarnizo (Santander) in 1768 by Francisco Gautier. After fighting during the American War of Independence and in the Battle of Cape St. Vincent (1780), she took part of the Napoleonic wars, where she fought at the Battle of Algeciras in 1801 and the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. In Trafalgar, under the command of Felipe Jado and Cagigal with 711 men aboard, she was surrounded by several ships of Nelson’s squadron. They fought for hours, but after the third approach, she was after being dismasted and with 180 dead and 200 wounded, the British offered terms to surrender. The ship was burned on October 29.

The San Juan Nepomuceno was a Spanish ship of the line built in 1765 in Guarnizo in Cantabria, on design of Francisco Gautier, along with other similar ships. She was used for many years for many different missions, many of them in the Caribbean. In 1793 she fought against Revolutionary France, especially in the occupation of Toulon. In the Battle of Trafalgar, she achieved glory under commander Don Cosme Damian Churruca and provided an incredible example of Spanish heroism, fighting British ships after the loss of over 400 officers and crewmen. Ultimately, she was captured and renamed by the Royal Navy.
